Buzzing with Bees

Zeke has been busy the last few months studying for the school’s spelling and geography bees. His spelling study list contained many unusual words including the troublesome word acciaccatura. Thankfully, he was not asked to spell acciaccatura during his 5th grade school round. I suspect the spell master did not wish to attempt the pronunciation. Zeke won his grade level bee by spelling words such as crystallize, petroleum and curtain correctly. He participates in the regional bee next month, and hopes to follow in Josiah’s spelling bee champion footsteps.

Furthermore, over the last several months on Thursdays, he studied with the geography club. He won the school’s geography bee by correctly guessing Greece was the largest producer of cotton in the south Baltic. He joins his sister, Abby, in the geography bee champion category. The prize for winning was a medal and the opportunity to take a national test.

Regretfully, the geography bee test was not what he expected. He was hoping for “What river? Which country? What latitude?” Instead, he had to determine where in a fictional city to site a new sports stadium, what spice was in goulash, and what were the major threats to his favorite endangered species.

Next, he sets his sights on the math olympics – where he will try to equal Gabe’s success as Mathmagician.

Zeke loves the competition of trying to outdo his siblings.

“Anything you can do, I can do better.”

(On occasion, he must be protected from getting punched by one of them.)
