The Perfect Gift
Valentines Day in the Manry home involves mostly cards, chocolate, and flowers – things that make me smile. This morning I received from Dale a card and box of chocolates and a most surprisingly insightful gift. I am now hopeful that sock monkey gifts will forever be a thing of the past.
I keep track of our household spending in small notebooks of various sizes. This drives Dale crazy. He has attempted again and again to get me to do electronic budgeting. He sets it up for me, he demonstrates it to me, and inevitably I go back to my pens and scraps of paper. At the start of this year, I offered to try electronic budgeting again. However, Dale decided not to waste his time on the fruitless venture to get me to change my ways.
Instead, for Valentines Day, he bought me an old fashioned cash book with it’s stiff black cover and pages of 2 column cash ruling to record receipts and disbursements. I smiled and laughed when I saw it.
The perfect gift is not what you would like the person to have or do. It is what the person would want for themselves to have or do.
Happy Valentines Day!
