Writing

Zeke, who taught himself to count, his letters, and his numbers, is now teaching himself to write.  I had purchased for him a set of cut out cards with words on them and foam letters to be placed inside the cutouts.  He used those two objects together and then began to arrange the foam letters to make words known only in the language of Zeke.  Next, he grabbed a piece of paper from the printer, sat down at the table in the sunroom, and began to trace the card cutouts.  Once he gained confidence in letter formation, he started spelling names.  “What’s the word for ANNA?” he would ask.  I would say “A”, to which he replies, “What’s next?” until he has written the entire name or word.  He can now form most letters, although he does not care for B or D.  Today he asked me “What’s the word for DIRTY?”  When I started with D, he paused, decided he didn’t want to write that and said, “What’s the word for CLEAN?”
