I raised four boys and the rule in our house was, "if you do something wrong and tell me the truth, I can't promise you won't get in trouble, but if you do something wrong and lie to me I promise you, 1) I will find out and 2) you will then be in serious trouble!" If Abby had done it, she would have tried to claim it wasn't really her fault. If Gabe had done it, he would have blamed the laptop for being too fragile. If I had done it, I would have fixed it a never told anyone that it was broken in the first place.
